P1

Posting this using my Sony Ericsson P1 + WiFi. Sound silly yes? Just trying out the gizmo. The keypad was intimidating at first, but a few days into it I think I’m getting better, and typing much faster than with conventional keypad.

Will post some pics soon. I hope there’s a mobile app for blogging; using wordpress on opera mini is a bit difficult.

Requiems

Lola Quining (Juaquina Coprada, 1931-2007) I really wanted to go to Naga when SSS had a service call three weeks ago. I would have gone to Tabaco after, as I did the first time, and visit Lola Quining. The last time I was there, she was asking for some money for medicine (and to repair the roof). I didn’t have extra money then, but I do now, but my daughter’s birthday is up so I asked a co-worker to go to Naga instead.

If I did go, I would have been able to talk to her.

Rogie (Rogelio Querubin, 1973-2007) As soon as I got home from Lola Quining’s funeral, another sad news came. My friend/co-worker Rogie died. Always the life of the party, he will sorely be missed.

In Memoria

“Sabi nila high school life, high school life, basta sa’kin college life!” quipped Earnest as we were discussing high school memories over dinner at Moomba. After a year of planning to meet, four finally decided on a date.

I didn’t count on Mariza contacting me, much less talk to me. All I can remember from her on high school is the phrase “you touch my hair, and you’re dead”. She still has great looking hair. And all I can recall of Earnest was she being the loud-serious type, and Erly as the silent-serious type. Me.. I was a wallpaper.

I had two favorite teachers back in CI, the one in geometry and especially the one from journalism. I was given the chance to crawl out of my wall by our journalism teacher when she read my autobiography to every class she held. I was so surprised students from other sections I didn’t even knew approaching me complimenting me on my piece.. and they knew my name.

Dinner at MoombaWe tried rationalizing why our batch didn’t get much “bonding” relationship as compared to the previous year’s batch. A good catch by Earnest on how lucky current students are with the current niceties in technology and how favoritism by teachers created walls among classmates, especially on our batch.

Being a (former) teacher instructor myself, that made me ponder a bit. Our highschool is a small community-type, which is the same as the school I used to teach at. Unlike at university, where each faculty had their own rooms, my highschool and the school where I used to teach at has one room serving as faculty room and so teachers are given the chance to interact more and talk about stuff other than their lesson plans.

It will then be easy for teachers to fall on the favoritism strech. Teachers gossiping on which student is best, and who are the punks, likely fall on the trap. Even just overhearing the talk.

Is isolation a solution? I could hear Earnest saying “nah, ugali talaga nila yun”. :)

It was so great seeing Earnest, Erly and Mariza again after 18 years. Rediscovering friends was great joy.

Turbo Pascal rocked my world!

This digg entry on a new marketing move by Borland has given me a great smile today. The commenters have shared their good times with that well loved IDE.

I first learned Turbo Pascal back in 1988 (or 89? basta 2nd sem na) along with the UP-CPU group in UP-CLC (that’s UP Computer Programmers and Users group, and UP Computer Literacy Center). Spending nights and wee hours on green CRTs.

You can read the PC-Mag article here, and, although the site currently looks like old (I mean, the site looks like it came from early 90s), Borland has created a website for the product line here.

LiveMail now gives 2Gig

I seldom check my MSN LiveMail, I must have missed out on the news that my LiveMail got 2 Gigabytes of storage. I tried rummaging through all the spam in my “Inbox” and “Spam” folders but can’t find any notice from MS about the upgrade. Well what can I say? Thanks?

Of freebies

Welcome my first entry in wordpress.com

I came to a halt on blogging after I went back from Belgium last December 2005. Although I plan on it, I never got to get myself blog. To think, blogging is one of the reason I got DSL subscription at the house.

My previous blog site at fil.ph has been down for God knows how long. It was a good experience setting up my own WordPress blog– PHP and MySQL and all that, on a remote server. But their freebie service just can’t cut it, I guess. I used to run my own server much longer than that freebie at fil.ph, but running it got kinda expensive.

So here I am at WordPress.com. Free.

And since I’m talking about freebies, I am also currently setting up my online resume at emurse.com. It beats the hell out of MS Word in resume composition, I’d say.
